Ethnomedicine

Ethnomedicine is a type of traditional medicine that uses bioactive substances derived from plants and animals. It is used by a variety of cultural groups, particularly those who do not have access to contemporary treatments. The terms ethnomedicine and traditional medicine are sometimes used interchangeably.

Ethnomedical research employs ethnobotany and medical anthropology approaches. In ethnomedicine, medicine traditions are frequently kept solely by oral transmission.
